Crystalens for Cataracts

Crystalens
The Crystalens is a cataract implant that is “accommodative”. This unique feature provides after-cataract patients with clear distance vision without glasses, as well as a range of near vision without reading glasses.
As the eye ages, the lens inside the eye loses flexibility, or the ability to “accommodate”, so that focusing on near targets, such as newspaper print, becomes impossible. This is why as people get older they rely on reading glasses for near vision. After cataract surgery, a traditional implant is inflexible, much like a cataract lens, so that an after-cataract patient is still dependent on glasses for reading.
The Crystalens most simulates the lens of a young person. Its design, position, and flexibility provide movement, which allows for clear distance vision as well as a range of near vision without glasses. This remarkable technology was FDA approved in 2003, and has evolved since for improved near vision.
